Download or read book Going Global written by Kyle Lundby and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-04-12 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s global organizations operate at an extraordinary level of complexity. They not only contend with diverse languages, cultures, and political/legal situations, they must also deal with differences based on national boundaries, organizational size, product and services mix, functional specialization, and customer sets. Going Global offers human resource professionals and I/O psychologists a comprehensive resource for meeting the challenges of the global work environment. Edited by Kyle Lundby, along with Jeff Jolton and a team of leading-edge practitioners, this comprehensive volume uses the employee lifecycle as an underlying framework and is organized into three sections: Practical considerations for HR and OD practitioners in a global environment; Attracting and selecting global talent; and Maximizing performance in the global workplace. Within each section, authors explore key cornerstones of I/O practice (e.g., selection, leadership development) applied to the global workplace. Going Global outlines the best practices in the field and is filled with down-to-earth advice from those who have worked in the field. The book not only provides insightful analysis of such broad topics as what it means to be global and HR’s strategic role in global organizations, it examines the undercurrent of culture and its pervasive influence on organizations and the people that comprise them. Going Global also contains valuable information on global employee attraction, selection, and retention strategies, as well as current thinking about intercultural competence training, work-family balance, and the expatriate experience. Going Global doesn’t offer a one-size-fits-all approach but rather includes many strategies and solutions that can apply to a wide variety of situations and organizations. Going Global offers firms a roadmap for creating a winning program for international success.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you looking for alternative streams of revenue for your business, low-hanging-fruit opportunities, and better profit margins? According to McKinsey, a dozen or so emerging economies will collectively have an annual GDP of more than 20 trillion USD by 2020, exceeding that of the United States. In 2015, developing economies will account for more than half of the world's annual GDP. And the largest consumer markets of the next generation can be found in emerging markets like China, India, and Africa. With figures like these, "going global," particularly to emerging markets can present the opportunities for which you are looking? As markets in developed countries stagnate, slow, dwindle, or reach saturation, companies are looking for new horizons to sustain them in the next generation economy. This is no less true for entrepreneurs and SMEs. While going global has become a business imperative and entrepreneurs and SMEs look for new opportunities like larger firms, questions arise around how? How do we go global? How do we tap into markets far away with limited resources? How will going global make a difference? How long should we wait before going global?Going Global on a Dime answers the "how" of going global from both a strategic and practical approach, focusing on new and existing firms considering or just starting the going global process. It re-wires the framework for going global so firms can navigate the course dynamically while minimizing costs, managing and maximizing cash flow and return on investment, streamlining processes, and keeping the "small" firm ready to take advantage of profitable opportunities.

Book excerpt: Can organized labor survive in a globalizing world? Going Global explores the impact of increasingly globalized manufacturing on the labor movement in the industrialized West. In a detailed comparative study of metalworking and textiles unions in the United States, Sweden, and Germany James A. Piazza reveals an international labor movement under threat, crippled by falling union membership and waning political influence. Piazza illustrates--through statistical analysis and industry-specific case studies--organized labor's urgent need for effective structures of collective bargaining, strong political connections, and democratic workplace institutions. Going Global will be of great interest to scholars of international political economy and industrial relations seeking a blueprint for organized labor's survival in the new global economy.

The BRI is promoted as a way for win-win cooperation that promotes common development and prosperity. Since the introduction of BRI, China organised the inaugural One Belt One Road Summit and the Second Belt and Road Forum to spur the implementation of the Initiative.President Xi emphasised that the Belt and Road projects should uphold the principles of shared benefits and joint contributions to realise the vision of a high-quality, open, green and clean BRI. Host countries can possibly gain from China's greenfield manufacturing investments to expand the BRI markets.Contributed by academics and business professionals from Asia, Europe and Africa, the chapters discuss the contemporary people, business, civil society and government developments related to the BRI and explore Health, Environment and Security (HES) challenges that confront the Initiative. This volume shows how a host country can leverage on China's investment without losing the nation's interest.

This book was released on 2008-03-29 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China is certainly doing its best to keep the world mesmerized by its e- nomic achievements. The Chinese economic growth story that begun 30 years ago has in terms of dynamics and duration long since surpassed all those “economic miracles” which have brought Germany, Japan, and the South East Asian Tigers into the top–league of the industrialized world. The rapid expansion of the Chinese economy has gone along with a fu- fledged re-integration of China into the global economic system. In the course of the last 30 years China has become a major player in the global economy and today is on a trajectory towards even greater prominence. In recent years, the Chinese economy seems to have reached an imp- tant threshold line of economic development and global integration. In the first quarter century of reform and global opening, Chinese enterprises have been largely confined to a ‘passive’ role in the global division of - bor. Foreign enterprises as the proprietors of greatly superior business models, production technologies, management models as well as very competitively established brands have been integrating Chinese players in their value chains and global operations. Lacking the necessary production technologies, products as well as marketing knowledge to successfully - dress OECD-consumers, Chinese enterprises have been hardly able to - ter the global markets without such guidance. Now, this constellation is changing.

Book excerpt: The ways to be effective in global missions have changed. The authors believe that content and values must undergird the North American local church's approach to global mission. It is not enough to "do something." It is in fact possible to do all of the right things in all of the wrong ways, with negative results. It is also possible that mission "over there" can have as much -- or more -- on the church at home. This book discusses common principles and practices that inform and energize local churches as they enter the global ministry arena. This book will assist church leadership as they look for resources to help them balance the agenda of short-term versus long-term mission, fund-raising, and the tension between evangelism and compassionate social ministry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the People's Republic of China (PRC) was granted Most Favored Nation (MFN) status by the United States in 1979, no one imagined the massive transformation the Chinese economy would make within a few decades. China's remarkable transition from merely being a “world factory”, to the source of the world's new R&D and product design and innovation since the 1980s is the key focus of Spillover Effects of China Going Global. In this insightful and unique book, Joseph Pelzman shows how the second largest world economy triggered off many spillover effects beyond mass-labour production of durable and non-durable goods — such as the provision of foreign aid to African, Latin American and Asian economies, and increasing focus on internal endogenous innovation, research and development. He provides a comprehensive look at these spillover effects and analyzes how they will undoubtedly bring positive opportunities for others within the rest of the world in the 21st Century.

Download or read book Chinese Firms Going Global: Can They Succeed? written by Healy Joseph C and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-06-08 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China has increased its engagement with the world and is pursuing ambitious economic goals. Much has been written about the economic and social impact of Inbound Foreign Direct Investment (IFDI) on China with the transfer-in of Western resources and expertise. Less has been written, in an accessible way at least, on the unleashing of the entrepreneurial spirit and Outbound Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) of China as Chinese firms have gone global. The global expansion of Chinese firms is a recent phenomenon, which is not well understood. The book is aimed at providing an important context for understanding the challenges and biases Chinese firms face while going global, using a multi-disciplinary approach weaving themes from history, contemporary Chinese politics, geopolitics, international relations, economics, finance, strategy, culture and society, together with the role of management education in developing entrepreneurs' capabilities for success. The book also explores the basis upon which Chinese firms can compete outside their domestic market by using a Four Cs' framework -- core capabilities, cultural adaptability, competencies of management and country of origin. The book argues that weaknesses in several of the Four Cs' might be compensated for by the Fifth C -- cooperation from government. The book will appeal to the growing legion of China-watchers and general readers who are open-minded and keen to better understand their increasing profile of Chinese firms in international markets. Are they a threat? To whom? And why? Contents: The China Dream The Facts on Chinese OFDI The Five Biases The Barrier of Political Ideology The Complexity of Culture International Strategy Firm Performance and the Role of the Financial System Management Education Concluding Remarks Readership: General readers interested in China's Economy, China's overseas investment, Chinese firms' international strategies. Keywords: Chinese Firms;Globalization;OFDI;Biases;Insurmountable Challenges;Management Capabilities;Political Ideology;Culture;Management EducationReview: Key Features: Comprehensive and rigorous, but accessible treatment of an important topic that is rarely addressed in a balanced manner in most western media discourse Bridges academia and popular treatment in a unique manner which appeals to both the Chinese and Western readers

Summary Book Review Going Global Or Going Nowhere? :

Download or read book Going Global Or Going Nowhere? written by Jennifer Medcalf and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the changing nature and location of NATO's operations, concentrating on the development of its extra-European interventions. The objectives of the book are twofold. The first is to provide a historical overview of the importance of the out-of-area issue to NATO. The book takes a chronological approach to this and maps the evolution of the debates that took place about NATO's appropriate response to threats beyond the North Atlantic area from NATO's founding in 1949 until the present day. The second objective is to assess how successfully NATO has made the transition from being a security actor with regional responsibilities to one that responds to global security threats. The author considers the argument that emerged post-9/11 that the key to ensuring NATO's future vitality was to expand its geographic area of responsibility to encompass threats occurring both within and beyond the Euro-Atlantic area. This book therefore provides the first detailed examination of the evolution of NATO's global role and the success with which NATO has adapted to its new responsibilities.
