Book excerpt: Core values of society, health and wellbeing impact today on all aspects of our lives, and have also increasingly influenced patterns of tourism consumption and production. In this context wellness has developed into a significant dimension of tourism in a number of new and long established destinations. However, although it is consistently referred to as one of the most rapidly growing forms of tourism worldwide there still remains a dearth of academic literature on this topic. This book uniquely focuses on the supply side of wellness tourism from a destination perspective in terms of the generation and delivery of products and services for tourists who seek to maintain and improve their health. This approach provides a better understanding of how wellness tourism destinations develop and explores the specific drivers of that growth in a destination context and how destinations successfully compete against each other in globalised market place. A range of wellness destination development and management issues are examined including the importance of authenticity, an appropriate policy framework, delivery of high quality goods and services, participation of a broad range of stakeholders and the development of networks and clusters as well as collaborative strategies essential for a successful development and management of a wellness tourism destination. International case studies and examples from established and new wellness tourism destinations are integrated throughout. This timely volume written by leaders in this sector will be of interest to tourism and hospitality students and academics internationally.

Book excerpt: 'Entertaining and gripping . . . For those at the helm, the philanthropic plutocrats and aspiring "change agents" who believe they are helping but are actually making things worse, it's time for a reckoning with their role in this spiraling dilemma' Joseph Stiglitz, New York Times Book Review 'In Anand's thought-provoking book his fresh perspective on solving complex societal problems is admirable. I appreciate his commitment and dedication to spreading social justice' Bill Gates An insider's trenchant investigation of how the global elite's efforts to "change the world" preserve the status quo and obscure their culpability Former New York Times columnist Anand Giridharadas takes us into the inner sanctums of a new gilded age, where the rich and powerful fight for equality and justice any way they can - except ways that threaten the social order and their position atop it. We see how they rebrand themselves as saviours of the poor; how they lavishly reward "thought leaders" who redefine "change" in winner-friendly ways; and how they constantly seek to do more good, but never less harm. But why should our gravest problems be solved by the unelected upper crust instead of the public institutions it erodes by lobbying and dodging taxes? Rather than rely on scraps from the winners, Giridharadas argues that we must take on the gruelling democratic work of building more robust, egalitarian institutions. Trenchant and revelatory, Winners Take All is a call to action for elites and citizens alike.

Book excerpt: A memoir of a quest to eradicate landmines from the face of the Earth—and replace dangerous ground with productive farmland: “Kuhn is an inspiration.” —Gillian Sorensen, former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General After surviving a bout with cancer, Heidi Kühn decided to devote herself to ridding the world of another kind of life-threatening scourge: landmines in regions as far-flung as Croatia, Vietnam, and Afghanistan. Inspired by the work of the late Princess Diana, Heidi began the humanitarian organization Roots of Peace from the basement of her Northern California home. She gained the support of famed Napa Valley vintners Robert Mondavi and Mike Grgich, and soon her “mines-to-vines” mission began to take hold. In this powerful memoir, Heidi tells the Roots of Peace story, from the early days in which she built her vision to her current presence on the global stage, where she has worked with presidents, prime ministers, landmine survivors, and religious leaders from around the world to spread a message of peace and recovery. In the years since the founding of Roots of Peace, its agricultural projects have made tremendous progress to fight against landmines, revitalizing devastated land and uplifting the lives of countless people in the process. This is a story of healing, faith, and how an ordinary person can inspire remarkable change—and plant the seeds of a brighter future.

This book was released on with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows hoteliers how to create a spirit of hospitality that is impossible to create with the globally pervasive, standards manual-based concept of SOP-Customer Satisfaction. Heart-Based Hospitality is an energetic and spiritual concept of hospitality, and it provides a completely new direction in hospitality. It is based on creating an ever-increasing spirit of unconditional love, Metta loving-kindness, compassion, and heart-warming care, which are the forgotten essence of hospitality. By working with energy, especially heart energy, and by developing the spiritual capacity of the staff you can create limitless levels of spiritual and energetic hospitality far above the traditional SOP-Customer Satisfaction ceiling. As you develop Heart-Based Hospitality you can increase the softness, gentleness, loving-kindness, compassion, and heart-warming care of the staff and the energetic warmth of the hospitality without limit. Heart-Based Hospitality is a concept and a direction that enables the spirit of hospitality to evolve energetically and spiritually. It will revolutionise the hospitality industry. I call the level Heart-Based Hospitality because it is created by working with human energy, especially with the energy of the heart; by developing the heart’s intelligence; by increasing heart coherence so as to open the heart to experience ever-stronger emotions of love; and by developing spiritual capacity which increases the desire to show unconditional love, Metta loving-kindness, heart-warming care, and compassion from the heart. The future hospitality experience will be energetic and spiritual. Hotels in the future will also use heart field energy techniques to change the energetic vibration of the hotel staff, the guests, and spaces. They will also infuse spaces, facilities, and guest accommodation with pleasant-feeling energy through specific meditations. I have written the book in order to bring about a revolution of change in the hotel industry. The book shows hotels how to implement and develop the process of creating Heart-Based Hospitality. Part 1, the Introduction to the book, explains what the book is about. Go to this link: http://heartbasedhospitality.com/?page_id=57800

This book was released on 2016-08-11 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before I got the chance to go to a convention I had no intention of ever setting foot in Florida. Why? Sharks, crocs AND gators, swamps... it seemed everyone in Florida was either an old age pensioner in a sun hat or a family of four on their way to Disneyland. I was wrong. So wrong, super wrong and all I could think of when I got to Clearwater Beach was... this is a beach. (And it just kept getting better.) Yes, there are crocs, and gators and sharks and I've seen a fair few, but there are also turtles and dolphins and manatees (and flying fish and bioluminescence and horseshoe crabs) who have given me some of the best days of my life. I used to get extremely burned out in my old job and couldn't handle researching and booking a hotel and flight or finding what to do when I did take time off. So, I thought "wouldn't it be awesome if someone would write a guide that just gave you one perfect escape; the perfect hotel, spa, flight and restaurant." So that's what I did.

Book excerpt: China is not so much a country as a continent, with so many areas to visit, and as soon as you tell anyone you're heading there or look at classic tours you'll hear where you should go... to see the pandas, visit the Terracotta Army, sleep on The Great Wall. I didn’t do any of these things. Whatever your guides, friends, family or even I say about it, choose your China trip for yourself. You can tailor your tour to suit you exactly (much like you can have almost any item of clothing made up for you in a day in China!) Summary Book Review Medical Tourism :

Download or read book Medical Tourism written by C. Michael Hall and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medical and health tourism is a significant area of growth in the export of medical, health and tourism services. Although spas and improved well-being have long been part of the tourist experience, health tourism now includes travel for medical purposes ranging from cosmetic and dental surgery through to transplants and infertility treatment. Many countries including China, Cuba, Hungary, India, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore actively promote and compete for the medical tourist dollar, while many developed countries also provide niche private services. However, the field of medical tourism is increasingly being subject to scrutiny and debate, particularly as a result of concerns over regulatory, ethical and wider health issues. Drawing on a range of theoretical and methodological perspectives, this book is one of the first to critically address the substantial political, philosophical and ethical issues that arise out of the transnational practices of medical tourism. Through a series of chapters the book engages with key issues such as the role of regulatory and policy structures in influencing medical and health tourism related mobilities. These issues are investigated by considering range of developing and developed countries, medical systems and health economic perspectives. The book adopts a multi-layered perspective to not only investigate the business and marketing practices of medical and health tourism but places these within a broader framework of contemporary globalisation, policy and practice. By doing so it opens up debate of the ethical space in which medical and health tourism operates as well as reinforce the wide ranging perspectives that exist on the subject in both the public and academic imagination. This significant contribution will be of interest to students, academics in tourism and medical policy, trade and economic development fields.
