Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theodicy of the remarkable Scottish Congregationalist theologian Peter Taylor Forsyth has long been recognized as a vital and significant contribution to twentieth-century theology. Up until now, however, there has not been a substantial full-length treatment of Forsyth's work on the problem of evil. The Theodicy of Peter Taylor Forsyth fills this lacuna by setting out, in a fairly systematic and comprehensive manner, Forsyth's justification of God in the face of evil. In so doing, it also illuminates several other related areas of his thought, such as his epistemology and Christology, as well as his understanding of sin, the atonement, providence, divine passibility, human origins, and the God-world relationship. Bringing Forsyth's approach to the subject into conversation with other prominent thinkers like Leibniz, Dostoyevsky, Camus, Moltmann, Hick, Bauckham, and Fiddes, this book also suggests ways in which Forsyth's justification of God contributes to the current state of Christian theodicy. It highlights Forsyth's ability to integrate insights from different approaches, even those that have hitherto generally been considered diametrically opposed notions. Forsyth's theodicy therefore presents an integrative approach to the topic, with every theme flowing from and returning to a clear center: the cross of Christ. As the book also makes clear, Forsyth considers theodicy to be an immensely practical discipline, with significant implications for human life. In every sense, therefore, it constitutes a "crucial" justification of the ways of God to humanity.

Download or read book The Sword of the Spirit in Memory written by Tena Marchand and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-10-17 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sword of the Spirit demonstrates a very easy method for memorizing scripture while enabling a deeper understanding of His Word. It will change you. You will establish a secure and solid foundation in Christ. You will become spiritually stronger as you face different challenges throughout life in your walk with the Lord. You will be set free from long-term sin, habits, and attitudes that have weighed you down and affected your overall Christian experience. You will develop a new way of thinking and discover that old ways are becoming a thing of the past. You will experience victory rather than defeat. You will move on to maturity more easily. A twenty-year-old has reached adulthood, but is not as mature as his father. The young adult should not be thinking or acting like a child that is five, ten, or thirteen years old. Nothing of those ages should influence his maturity level, or he will have difficulty making it in lifeand he will know stress very well. The same applies to us as Christians if we are not actively forsaking old ways and developing new ways. Topics include forgiveness, prayer, faith, resisting temptation, freedom from sin habits, peace, handling trials, renewing your mind, going forward, and allowing God to live through youjust to name a few of the very basic essentials for a solid platform in Christ. These scriptures will set you free from unnecessary burdens of self that hinder your moving forward in victory. As you memorize and meditate on these scriptures, you will be set free from years of emotional baggage that guide your feelings, thoughts, reactions, and decisions. You are renewing your mind and being transformed. It is what takes place in you by the working of the Holy Spirit, God Himself, as you memorize His Worda genuine new you! Memorizing the Bible is such a daunting task, that many people relegate it to the extremely spiritual and lose all hope of ever applying this wonderful tool to their own life. I so appreciate the humility and wisdom of Tena Marchand and this amazing tool for the believer. Without a doubt, these concepts and devotionals will help you accomplish this wonderful aspect of our faith. David had a revelation of this truth when he wrote, I have stored up Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You (Psalms 119:11). Be blessed. Download or read book Joining Jesus on the Way written by Phil Mayo and published by Elm Hill. This book was released on 2019-12-10 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to ‘take up your cross daily’? “Sell your possessions and give to the poor”--really!? “Deny yourself,” Jesus says. How does all of this fit together in a world two thousand years removed? Joining Jesus on the Way, takes a look at the discipleship teachings of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. Luke’s unique emphasis on discipleship has long been recognized among the Gospel traditions. One might even call Luke’s Gospel a discipleship manual. In Luke, Jesus prepares his disciples for the power packed ministry they will live out in Luke’s second volume, Acts. Jesus teaches his disciples about self-denial, obedience to his commands, proper attitude toward possessions, faith and prayer, and, after his resurrection, promises them the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to continue the ministry he began. Most of Jesus’ discipleship teachings are found in the “travel narrative” portion of the Gospel of Luke. In these ten chapters, Jesus is traveling up to Jerusalem and his ultimate destiny, the cross. This is a journey on which Jesus invites all would-be disciples to join him. On the way, we learn what it means to be true followers of Jesus. The ultimate goal of the journey is the cross, which every disciple must bear, but the journey does not end here. Death to self means resurrection to new life in Christ. Two thousand years later, Jesus is still calling his followers to join him on the way, but we don’t always know how to answer that call. It’s not necessarily our fault, as we seem to hear very little these days about true discipleship. Some are answering the call but don’t know what to do next. Their pursuit of Jesus is avid, but they need someone to help them along the way. This book is written to be that help. In Joining Jesus on the Way, Mayo considers the implications of Jesus’ discipleship teachings for would-be disciples both then and now. This book is written to challenge 21st century believers to deepen their walk with Jesus, and to choose to take up that proverbial cross and follow him daily.

This book was released on 2018-08-15 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you ever just tired of life? Tired of disappointments, hardships, and struggles? The everyday boredom, or if it's not boredom, it's little irritations at home, on the job, your relationships, people in general, or on the road driving with people who are inconsiderate; that is my polite term. Whatever it may be, there is always hope! Think deep and give some thought to why you are living? What is your purpose on this earth? We all go through the ups and downs of life, the good times, the hard times. We go through happy times and sad times. We go through easy, happy-go-lucky days and then those days that seem so impossible that we don't think we can go on. We need hope to get through these times. Without hope, we have a tendency to just give up and quit fighting. The people in our lives can either be helpful or they can be a hindrance; they can be truthful and tell us what we need to hear or they can cover up and tell us what we want to hear. We need the truth and sometimes the truth hurts, but it just may get us back on track where we need to be and open up our eyes to get the right perspective back. This book is going to help you. It is very personal to me. It is written straight from my heart to yours. Over the past several years, Jesus has been working in my heart and changing me. I asked him too. It is the best feeling in the world. Take these words on these pages to heart. Let Jesus work in you. You will not regret it. We have too many regrets already in our lives. Let's turn that around for the better. Take a good look at your life, get honest with yourself, and get a fresh, new perspective on life and your purpose. You can experience hope through Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: When the world’s most powerful celebrity (according to Forbes magazine) personally teaches a course on miracles, millions will join her class — including many believers. What will happen when the coursework blends inspiration and encouragement with some of the oldest heresies in the Enemy’s arsenal? People you know and love may dismiss the claims of Jesus Christ as the only way to God. Dr. Erwin Lutzer’s insight and clarity reveals the true nature of contemporary spirituality, tracing its roots across a range of false belief systems and back to its first appearance in the garden of Eden. In a day when so many seek direction from the media, it remains essential to carefully discern between truth and the lie.
