Download or read book Tennyson’s Camelot written by David Staines and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2010-10-30 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the principal narrative poem of nineteenth-century England, Tennyson's Idylls of the King is an ambitious and widely influential reworking of the Arthurian legends of the Middle Ages, which have provided a great body of myth and symbol to writers, painters, and composers for the past hundred years. Tennyson's treatment of these legends is now valued as a deeply significant oblique commentary on cultural decadence and the precarious balance of civilization. Drawing upon published and unpublished materials, Tennyson's Camelot studies the Idylls of the King from the perspective of all its medieval sources. In noting the Arthurian literature Tennyson knew and paying special attention to the works that became central to his Arthurian creation, the volume reveals the poet's immense knowledge of the medieval legends and his varied approaches to his sources. The author follows the chronology of composition of the Idylls, allowing the reader to see Tennyson's evolving conception of his poem and his changing attitudes to the medieval accounts. The Idylls of the King stands, ultimately, as the poet's own Camelot, his legacy to his generation, an indictment of his society through a vindication of his idealism.

This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores Victorian readers’ consumption of a wide array of reading matter. Established scholars and emerging researchers examine nineteenth-century audience encounters with print culture material such as periodicals, books in series, cheap serials, and broadside ballads. Two key strands of enquiry run through the volume. First, these studies of historical readership during the Victorian period look to recover the motivations or desired returns that underpinned these audiences’ engagement with this reading matter. Second, contributors investigate how nineteenth-century reading and consumption of print was framed and/or shaped by contemporaneous engagement with content disseminated in other media like advertising, the stage, exhibitions, and oral culture.

That is, the greater connectedness of all living beings in God. Written from the Lord in Christ, You Can Call Him Dad addresses the misconceptions of many in need today. Where do we come from? How do we get to heaven? Do we have a perfect match? When will the world end? Told in His words are discourse on the life and times of Jesus and Mary Christ, the mystery of the twin flames, the higher self and the oversoul, the creation story, Noah's ark and the legend of Atlantis, the Book of Revelation, and Ezekiel's wheels. This book can be read both as an interpretation of scripture, and, as a prescription for healing now and in times to come.
