Then something I thought would not be possible happened: I stopped believing! Before we begin this journey on Earth, our souls, along with God the Creator and the elders of records, decide the lessons we need to learn or teach for the life we will be leading. Each of us has the ability to connect with our angels and the spirit world, but as our innocence fades and we adapt to the life we have chosen, we forget how to see those beautiful, celestial beings and receive messages from the other side. When this happens, we become, as I like to put it, “completely human.” There are individuals who remain on the fringe, still able to see angels and communicate with those on the other side of the veil and in different realms. These individuals remain partially human while on this Earth. Follow me down the road I traveled to becoming almost “completely human” and return through the maze that brought me to where I am today: living on the fringe of humanity and loving every minute.

Book excerpt: This book offers a new methodological and theoretical approach to the highly sensitive and complicated issue of violence against women in contemporary Iran. Challenging the widespread notion that secularisation and modernisation are the keys to emancipating women, the author instead posits that domestic violence is deeply rooted in society and situated in the fundament of current discourses. Investigating how orthodox jurisprudence as mainstream discourse, together with social, legal and public norms, help to perpetuate the production and reproduction of physical, psychological, sexual and economical violence against women, the author presents and reflects upon narratives, experiences and the social realities accounting for domestic violence against women. Drawing on qualitative empirical research, she theorises that the notion of secularization and modernisation helping to overcome such violence is to some extent represented by Islamic feminism, secular feminism, and religious intellectualism, all of which are methodologically examined in the analysis. Challenging conventional wisdom regarding women’s place in Iran and in wider Islamic society, this book offers a new insight into violence against Muslim women and as such will be an important addition to the existing literature in the areas of gender studies, Middle Eastern and Islamic studies, and Iranian studies.

Book excerpt: This book presents a new approach to understanding contemporary personal life, taking account of how people build their lives through a bricolage of ‘tradition’ and ‘modern’. The authors examine how tradition is used and adapted, invented and re-invented; how meaning can leak from past to present; the ways in which people’s agencies differ as they make decisions; and the process of bricolage in making new arrangements. These themes are illustrated through a variety of case studies, ranging from personal life in the 1950s, young women and marriage, the rise of cohabitation, female name change, living apart together, and creating weddings. Centrally the authors emphasise the re-traditionalisation involved in de-traditionalisation and the connectedness involved in individualised processes of relationship change. Reinventing Couples will be of interest to students and scholars across a range of disciplines including sociology, social work and social policy.

Charismatic rakes and dark agendas set the scene in this multi-layered Georgian mystery and romance in which innocent Celeste Rosington must play a risky game if she’s not to fall victim to the greed and ambition of her powerful enemies. But just who is the enemy? When Celeste disguises herself to aid her future husband, she inadvertently finds herself in the arms of notorious libertine, Lord Peregrine. And she likes it. But with her reputation in the balance, Celeste soon finds herself navigating the treacherous waters of envy, intrigue and deadly secrets. As an unwitting pawn in a deadly battle between adversaries, she must choose where to place her allegiance. Her greatest conflict is between her head and her heart. Choosing the wrong man, she knows, could mean the difference between life and death. *Wicked Wager was previously published by Harlequin Escape under the name Beverley Eikli. This exciting, fast-paced Georgian romance with mystery and intrigue has since been revised. Here's what the readers say: “Cloaked in mystery and dark agendas Wicked Wager…is a wonderful expedition into intrigue and romance! Nothing is as it seems in this book and as the story evolved clues and romance built.” ~ Jenerated Reviews. “The author knows how to weave a web full of mystery and suspense, and I had a great time relating to the heroine. Wicked Wager isn't the typical historical romance, it's very complex and intense.” ~ Kindle Reader “A great novel about a lord who is bored and likes playing games, especially when there are women involved. The game playing is fun and the romantic aspect …is great.” ~ Amazon Reader “A powerful page-turner with a compelling romance, a gripping 'edge of the seat' mystery and characters that held me spellbound.” ~ Amazon Reader "Full of mystery, intrigue, and romance. This book is set aside from all others. Totally immersible and hadn't realised I had finished it until I turned the last page. What a book!!"~ Kindle Reader
