Book excerpt: A fast-moving fantasy novel, a no-holds-barred novel written on an adult level, about the war on terror. In the city state of Oolong Morblock, where a certain proportion of the people have a natural ability to cause themselves to explode, in effect making them potential suicide bombers, Ibrahim Chess tries to find the middle road: to steer a course of moderation and sanity in a world which is going mad, and where the civil peace is threatened by the increasingly intolerant fanaticism of the conflict between the minority group to which Ibrahim belongs, the astrals, and the city state's dominant group, the norms. Note: this book contains some disturbing scenes. If you do not find something in this book to disturb you then you are a seriously disturbed person. Are you a person of exquisite good taste? Then, sorry, but you are disqualified as a reader. This book pretty much takes the attitude that boundaries (especially boundaries of taste) are there to be breached. You have been warned!

Download or read book The Dreamer written by Ursula Frank-Pegg and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2014-06-02 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most valuable of all dreams, which offers us a chance to avoid trouble, is almost as upsetting as the haunting version that finds us panting, scared, trying "to outrun danger." However, it is not fear we feel, but outrage. We feel a tremendous amount of desperation spilling over into the waking state. What we have dreamed is nothing we can brush off, explain away as another nightmare. The uneasy question remains, why we felt such over¬powering desperation and anger in a dream directed at a specific person, why we let it out in one large outcry of righteous indignation. We remember having been seized by a powerful surge of outrage. Completely unable to contain it, we made a spectacle of ourselves. We had a fit and did not give a hoot that we exploded right in front of someone who should impress us with his title, his knowledge, his "pious" demeanor, obviously with his status above ours. And here is the difference: the object of our outburst is identified. Somehow we didn't give a damn, who it is. We shouldn't have, for the person who is at the center of our agitation, is our adversary and, in some cases, possibly a deadly one. Our subconscious uses the dream route to give us a warning. We have exploded, let fly, for a good reason. Enough anger for two is boiling over, because of our own part in all this — if we were not so gullible, so ignorant, so besotted, all of this would not have happened. The detestable creature we are facing is at the bottom of our woes. With such a dream, our subconscious is trying to impress us with a most urgent message. It is attempting to wean us, to get us away from the influence of a person who is about to screw us — literally or symbolically so. Either way we will have to pay, if we don't heed a most urgent message: our own outcry of indignation. If we are allowing it to happen. This guy is trying to finagle us into a business deal, and we go along, while our subconscious cries foul. This shady businessman has already lost his shirt, and he knows it, but we don't realize he is just trying to fleece a few more sheep. We are not aware what we are letting ourselves in for, but our subconscious has already shown us the dramatic results. It has done the screening for us. Unless we reverse course, take an alternate route, grind to a stop, this guy with his clean-cut exterior we have been hankering for, is going to give us the case of herpes we have eluded so far. The book "The Dreamer" is based on more than a 20 year period of recorded dreams and the way they affected me and my family. it makes a distinction between different types of dreams - many of them undoubtedly familiar to the reader. Through repetition as well as intuition I can share with the reader the outreach of precognitive dreams. reaching out into a distant future of ten to more years. Understanding our dreams can help and protect us. let this book inspire you to start a record of your dreams and gradually understand their message.

This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laypeople think of wake, sleep and dreaming as distinct states of the mind/brain but “in-between”, hybrid states are recognized. For example, day-dreaming or, more scientifically, the default network occurs during wake. Equally, during sleep, lucid dreaming in rapid eye movement (REM) sleep presents as another hybrid state. But hybrid states are usually temporary. This book explores the possibility of an enduring hybrid wake-sleep-dream state, proposing that such a state may engender both creativity and psychopathologies. REM sleep is hyper-associative. Creativity depends on making remote associations. If REM sleep and dreaming begin to suffuse the wake state, enhanced creativity may result. But moderate to severe interpenetration of wake, sleep and dreaming may engender psychopathologies – as the functions of wake, sleep and dreaming are partially eroded.

Reeling from the aftermath of the twin tragedies of the Great War and the influenza epidemic, diffident schoolteacher Agnes Shanklin has taken the trip of a lifetime: to Egypt and the Holy Land. But her arrival at Cairo's Semiramis Hotel coincides with an event that will change history. For the year is 1921 and the Cairo Peace Conference is about to preside over nothing less than the creation of the modern Middle East. At first Agnes acts as a welcome sounding board for the historic players - Churchill, T. E. Lawrence and Lady Gertrude Bell among them - poised to invent the nations of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan and so decide the fate of the Arab world. Yet as the tumultuous days pass, she attracts the attention of a charismatic German spy and is inexorably drawn into the duplicitous, dangerous world of geopolitical intrigue... As enlightening as it is entertaining, this compelling, passionately felt novel casts brilliant and perceptive light on what lies behind so many of today's headlines.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Freud, dreams were the royal road to the unconscious: through the process of interpretation, the manifest and sometimes bewildering content of dreams can be traced back to the unconscious representations underlying it. But can we understand dreams in another way by considering how the unconscious is structured by our social experiences? This is hypothesis that underlies this highly original book by Bernard Lahire, who argues that dreams can be interpreted sociologically by seeing the dream as a nocturnal form of self-to-self communication. Lahire rejects Freud’s view that the manifest dream content is the result of a process of censorship: as a form of self-to-self communication, the dream is the symbolic arena most completely freed from all forms of censorship. In Lahire’s view, the dream is a message which can be understood only by relating it to the social world of the dreamer, and in particular to the problems that concern him or her during waking life. As a form of self-to-self communication, the dream is an intimate private diary, providing us with the elements of a profound and subtle understanding of who and what we are. Studying dreams enables us to discover our most deep-seated and hidden preoccupations, and to understand the thought processes that operate within us, beyond the reach of our volition. The study of dreams and dreaming has largely been the preserve of psychoanalysis, psychology and neuroscience. By showing how dreams are connected to the lived experience of individuals in the social world, this highly original book puts dreams and dreaming at the heart of the social sciences. It will be of great value to students and scholars in sociology, psychology and psychoanalysis and to anyone interested in the nature and meaning of dreams.

Book excerpt: A guidebook for communicating with the departed and gaining first-hand knowledge of life beyond death • Reveals that the easiest way to communicate with the departed is through dreams • Offers methods for helpful and timely communication with deceased loved ones • Provides powerful Active Dreaming practices from ancient and indigenous cultures for journeying beyond the gates of death for wisdom and healing We yearn for contact with departed loved ones. We miss them, ache for forgiveness or closure, and long for confirmation that there is life beyond physical death. In The Dreamer’s Book of the Dead, Robert Moss explains that we have entirely natural contact with the departed in our dreams, when they come visiting and we may travel into their realms. As we become active dreamers, we can heal our relationship with the departed and move beyond the fear of death. We also can develop the skills to function as soul guides for others, helping the dying to approach the last stage of life with courage and grace, opening gates for their journeys beyond death, and even escorting them to the Other Side. Drawing on a wealth of personal experience as well as many ancient and indigenous traditions, Moss offers stories to inspire us and guide us. He shares his extraordinary visionary relationship with the poet W. B. Yeats, whose greatest ambition was to create a Western Book of the Dead, to feed the soul hunger of our times. Moss teaches us the truth of Chief Seattle’s statement that "there is no death; we just change worlds."

This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guiding readers through the disorienting dreamworld of James Joyce's last work, Kimberly Devlin examines Finnegans Wake as an uncanny text, one that is both strange and familiar. In light of Freud's description of the uncanny as a haunting awareness of earlier, repressed phases of the self, Devlin finds the uncanniness of the Wake rooted in Joyce's rewritings of literary fictions from his earlier artistic periods. She demonstrates the notion of psychological return as she traces the obsessions, scenarios, and images from Joyce's "waking" fictions that resurface in his final dreamtext in uncanny forms, transformed yet discernible, often to uncover hidden, unconscious truths. Drawing on psychoanalytic arguments and recent feminist theory, Devlin maps intertextual connections that reveal many of Joyce's most deeply felt imaginative and intellectual concerns, such as the self in its decentered relationship to language, the elusive nature of human identity, the anxieties implicit in mortal selfhood, the male subject in its opposition to the female sexual "other." She suggests that the Wake records Joyce's implicit interest in the psychological counterpart to Vico's theory of historical repetition: Freud's theory of the insistent internal return of earlier narratives.
